From June 25-27, 2024, the Ministry of Health and Human Services participated in an important international conference in Geneva, Switzerland focused on measuring and strengthening health systems performance.
The Ministry was represented by the Head of the Integrated Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Unit, Dr. Abdijalil Abdullahi Ali.
At the conference, Dr. Abdijalil presented the ministry’s key priorities, challenges, and opportunities related to improving the performance of the national health system. He highlighted the ministry’s focus on:
– Strengthening integrated, harmonized M&E systems to track health system indicators
– Aligning donor funding and technical support with the priorities outlined in the National Transformation Plan
– Improving data-driven decision making at all levels of the health system
The conference brought together representatives from Ministries of Health, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, major global health donors like the World Bank, GAVI, GFF, USAID, and FCDO.
Discussions centered on how to best coordinate and optimize investments in health systems strengthening to maximize impact and sustainability. Dr. Abdijalil emphasized the importance of the Ministry of Health taking the lead in driving this process based on national priorities.
In addition to the main conference sessions, Dr. Abdijalil also held bilateral meetings with donors and UN agencies. The goal was to further strengthen collaboration and commitment to the Ministry’s integrated M&E program – a critical component of monitoring progress and driving improvements in health service delivery and outcomes.
The Ministry of Health and Human Services views this conference as an important opportunity to elevate its voice on the global stage and ensure international support is firmly aligned with national priorities. We will continue to actively engage with partners to realize our vision of a high-performing, resilient health system that delivers quality care for all.
