Somali Health Officials Participate in High-Level Training in Beijing

Beijing, China – July 24, 2024

A delegation of senior officials from the Somali Federal Ministry of Health are in Beijing, China this week to participate in a high-level training program on strengthening Somalia’s healthcare system. The training is organized by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and implemented by the China National Health Commission.

The training covers a wide range of topics, including:

– Overview of the Chinese healthcare system and lessons Somalia can apply
– Managing disease outbreaks and public health emergencies
– Leveraging technology to improve healthcare service delivery
– Establishing robust disease surveillance and tracking systems
– Effective vaccine management and distribution

The Somali delegation includes the Directors of the Federal Ministry of Health, senior advisors, the Directors General of Federal Member States Health Ministries, and department heads from the Federal Ministry of Health and Human Services. Representatives from the Somali Embassy in China also attended the opening ceremony.

The training is part of ongoing efforts by the Chinese government to support the development of Somalia’s healthcare infrastructure and capacity. It provides a valuable opportunity for Somali officials to learn from China’s extensive experience in building a nationwide healthcare system and managing public health challenges.

The training sessions will continue over the next several days, with Somali officials engaging in discussions, site visits, and knowledge-sharing activities. The goal is for the participants to return to Somalia equipped with new strategies and best practices to improve healthcare delivery and outcomes nationwide.
