World Breastfeeding Week 2022 was commemorated by the Ministry of Health and Human Services.

The Ministry of Health and Human Services held the commemoration of World Breastfeeding Week. The Minister of Health, Dr Fawziya Abikar Nur, as well as the Minister of Women and Human Rights, Mrs Hanifa Mahamed Ibrahim, and Senator Zamzam Dahir, all attended the ceremony. Mr Mahamed Adow, the health director for the Banadir Regional Administration (BRA), representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Somali Women’s Association, hospital directors, nutrition agencies, and civil society organizations also attended the event.

The event’s objective was to educate the community on the value of breastfeeding and how to support breastfeeding mothers. The Ministry of Health and Human Services advises starting breastfeeding as soon as possible after delivery and continuing it exclusively throughout the infant’s first six months.

The theme for the year 2022

The motto of the 2022 is  “Let’s Stand Up for Breastfeeding” EDUCATE AND SUPPORT.

Breastfeeding gives a baby a good start in life because it enables the baby to grow up healthy.
